We’re nervous about getting a jazz band?
Many clients think that their guests, on hearing the band play a swing tune, will in some way feel intimidated or frightened to get up and dance. In our experience the very opposite happens.
The rhythms are utterly infectious. Your guests will feel uncontrollable urges to dance. The thought that someone might be judging them as if in “Dancing With The Stars” will not enter their mind.
The band is committed to ensuring guests love the music whether they prefer to dance the night away or sit back and enjoy listening.
Our Pop music repertoire are all classic well known songs.
Are you reliable, what experience do you have?
Absolutely. We are all professional musicians, some with more than 20 years experience. All band members perform regularly and are reliable, prompt, and professional. All members of the band have studied music at university.
The band leader, Paul, has over 25 years experience performing at weddings, corporate functions, hotels, touring internationally, jazz clubs and music festivals. He is genuine, down to earth, and prides himself on clear communication and quality music making.
Some bands use backing tracks, do you?
Vintage Roots believe in an authentic band experience. Live musicians, live music, real instruments, real atmosphere. There are NO backing tracks. We find people love the band the Vintage way.
Will it be the same musicians I’ve seen and heard who perform at our function?
Yes. We have two female vocalists to choose from. Each with over 20 years performance experience. This ensures we can deliver quality music and entertainment.
If an instrumentalist is unable to perform due to illness or other reasons, be assured that we have an extensive network of professional musicians that work with us regularly – one of the advantages of a wonderful Melbourne music scene.
You should therefore feel very confident that the personal circumstance of any individual in the band does not jeopardise the bands ability to perform at your event.
Will you learn a song for our first dance at our wedding?
Yes. We would like to do the best rendition possibly and feel it is important to make sure the band suits your song (a jazz band performing a Metallica song would be odd). We usually need advanced notice in order to prepare the song. If you have a strong connection to the original version of the song you may wish to consider using the original recording.
How long will you play and what happens during breaks?
Many receptions/functions last for up to 4-5 hours. Vintage Roots co-ordinate with meal times, speeches or special requests. Sets are often 30-45 minutes. We will take care of background music in the set breaks (if you have nothing prepared).
What do I need to provide for the band?
The band requires access to power close to where we will be performing. We will supply a sound system suitable for the function (unless otherwise organised).
We require a good quality hot meal and some soft drinks and water. We don’t however expect you to go to any unnecessary expense and provide us with a gourmet three course meal and a range of alcoholic drinks!
In the majority of cases the musicians will have spent a considerable amount of time travelling to the venue. Once there, it’s all hands on deck to get the instruments, PA and lighting system set up in a very short space of time. With so much to get through there isn’t sufficient time to go ‘off site’ and look for a good quality meal.
It’s also worth mentioning that well fed and happy musicians goes a very long way to producing a great performance. We’re only human after all.
Three reasons for hiring a live wedding band:
- Nothing gets the heart racing and the blood pumping like live music, and a live performance will always be more exciting than pre-recorded music.
- A live band adds value with the visual impact it will have on your wedding/function. It will give your guests something to watch and will provide a focal point for your reception.
- A live wedding band helps to provide structure to your function. Once a DJ starts their set, it usually continues to the end of the night with breaks being hidden by a compilation CD, but the beginning and end of your band’s sets will be much more obvious. Try having one set and then the cake cutting, another set and then the bouquet toss, and then a final set followed by your grand departure.
